Samir qureshi

We are super pumped to introduce you to Samir Qureshi, our Product Specialist in our Westlake office! I chatted with Samir to get to know him better, and here's what he had to say.

Tell me about where you grew up. Do you have any siblings?

I have a younger brother and an older sister. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley and studied at UC Santa Cruz for 4 years.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Making incredibly poor financial decisions. I consider myself a foodie -- well, more of an over eater than a foodie. I am that annoying person who painstakingly takes photos of their food rather than just putting it in their mouth. If I am not eating copious amounts, I am reading comic books or playing table top games with friends. Dungeons and Dragons or Settlers of Catan anyone?.

If you had anyone play you in a movie who would it be and why?

If they made a movie about my life--I don't see why on earth they would, I can see Kumail Nanjiani playing me. Going to his shows at The Meltdown, listening to his standup, and seeing the roles he plays, I can see his and my personalities match nicely... Did that come off a bit stalkeresque? (I love that guy! Silicon Valley is one of my fav shows.)

What's your dream vacation?

What is traveling aside from an excuse to excessively eat at amazing places? I want to take a tour of Asia and sample all the local fare. Hey, some people want to backpack, that's not for me. I just want to stuff my face with deliciousness. Superman's Fortress of Solitude is a close second.

What's your favorite place you've traveled to?

Seattle, Washington. Great food. Really friendly people. Also, it rains there.

What kind of music are you into? Any favorite musicians?

I actually listen to podcasts more than I do music at this point. Harmontown, Snap Judgement, Reply All, Serial, Startup, Radiolab, The Gist, KCRW's To the Point, KCRW's Press Play, The Dinner Party Download, The Bugle, Live Wire!, This American Life, Stuff You Should Know and Invisibilia.

When I do listen to music, I listen to an eclectic range courtesy of my Songza stations. If I really must give a short list, I would say: Tool, The Cure, The XX, The Temptations, Arcade Fire, John Legend, Kanye West (sorry), Bruno Mars and Girl Talk just to name a few. My 128GB iPod Classic is filled, just an fyi. Oh, and my favorite album is Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys!

What's one of your favorite childhood memories?

During a high school fencing competition, I made it to the finals. My opponent attacked me in the face with a very powerful lunge. I heard the blade snap followed by the sound of metal bouncing on the floor. The funny thing is, I didn't see the rest of his sword. It didn't take me long to realize, his blade had pierced straight through my mask and into my eyebrow. Luckily, the wound wasn't too bad. My coach patched me up, and I went back on the strip. Oh, by the way, I won! (Love this story!)

Do you have any pets?

I have a 7-year-old Shiba Inu named Kona who I rescued 2 years ago. (I'm a firm believer in adopt don't shop!)

What are your favorite foods & restaurants?

This is a difficult question that changes day-by-day and by where I am. Let's keep this list local. (LA area)

Sushi: Go's Mart
Pizza: Tie between Village Pizzeria and Tomato Pie
Burgers: Blue Dog Tavern
KBBQ: Corner Place
Oaxacan: La Guelaguetza
Fancy 5: Ink, Animal, Bestia, Hinoki & Bird, and N/Naka
Dessert: Sweet Lady Jane

What brought you to CoverHound?

The amazingly authentic people. And the collection of such great intellects. I guess that's the beauty of a start-up, it's a collection of great people reinventing and making things better.

Samir, we are so happy you joined the company! Thanks for taking the time to let us get to know you better!
