We’re pleased to introduce Carlos Lopez, one of our Commercial Team Insurance Advisors. Since joining CoverHound, Carlos has been using his expertise to help small businesses find the right insurance coverage.
I was born in California and was raised in Mexico until I finished middle school. I moved back to the United States to finish High School and College.
Compared to California, what I like about Mexico is that there are hardly any mortgages to pay. Everyone builds their own house. Education is free, even university; however, the public transportation is better in California, and it is easier to obtain a vehicle here. Believe it or not, the cost of living is pretty much the same.
I liked the company background, the vision and the direction that the company is moving in. The way CoverHound does business is very different in comparison to what I had seen in my 12 years of experience working in this industry.
I like the outdoors a lot. I love Fútbol (soccer)! I enjoy pretty much any activity that keeps me active: jogging, hiking, bike riding, camping and going to the beach.
I have 11 siblings. That's right, there are 5 sisters and 7 brothers in my family. It is super challenging to grow up in a big family, especially if you are the youngest of the boys. There is no mercy, you have to fight your way up to the table. There were also a lot of handed-down clothes, so imagine how many times each piece of clothing was transferred (pretty long waiting list)!
I look up to my Dad. One of the many things he taught me was not to be a quitter.
Lake Tahoe - pretty much any time of the year is awesome to be there. When I am there, I like to kayak, bike ride, zip-line, snowboard, or just roll around in the snow.
I wanted to be a professional soccer player. The 10-year-old version would probably not recognize me and run away! At that age, I never saw myself behind a desk.
When I went to get my first car insurance from a broker agency, I was amazed by the knowledge my agent had. In comparison, I did not have any idea about how insurance worked. That got me hooked.
Sleep, family and coffee.
I never thought about it until I won. The first time I won the award, it was a surprise, even for me. During the second time, it was less of a surprise. I kept doing the same thing that I did the previous quarter. Like the saying goes: "If it ain’t broke, why fix it?”
There is no secret recipe for this. I do what I am supposed to do with a friendly, customer-service oriented attitude, rather than focusing on getting the sale. Things will then happen effortlessly and without pressure.
I love the uncertainty of this industry and the variety of situations and obstacles I face every single day. Questions like: "What is going to come in today? Who am I going to speak to? What challenge am I going to face?" These things keep me moving. Bruce Lee once said, "Be like water". I am a big fan of constant change. We have to change and adapt to evolve.
Thank you, Carlos, for sharing your experiences! We’re so happy you’re part of our team!
