It is my pleasure to introduce to you our Director of Digital Marketing, Katherine! She has played an instrumental role in CoverHound’s marketing efforts. I had an interview with her, and here’s what she had to say.
I grew up in New Bern, North Carolina. It’s a small, historic town in Eastern NC on two rivers, not too far from the beach. Very beautiful--Basically a storybook town to grown up in. I have two older brothers, Jamie and McLean. Both of them live in Raleigh, and my parents are still in New Bern. I miss them all daily! (I miss mine too!)
I grew up in the same house my whole life, until I left for college. It’s funny how much I love living in a city, because I definitely grew up a small town, Southern girl. Also, I absolutely love singing, but you’ll never hear me do karaoke because it makes me nervous, and I would want to practice first. I love singing while my husband, Alex plays the guitar in the comfort of our apartment. (I’ll be looking forward to hearing you sing on our karaoke machine!)
I love to travel. My husband and I usually go on one big trip a year and then sprinkle in smaller ones throughout. I live for our big trip each year - It brings us so much joy. Other hobbies and interests are yoga, hiking, fashion (reading about it, exploring new trends, shopping etc.), seeing live music, decorating my apartment, trying new restaurants and hotspots and playing with my sweet dog Miles. :)
Some of my favorite shows are Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey, Homeland, House of Cards and Master of None. Is that too many?! I do love a good TV show. For movies, I’m a big fan of a great drama. Usually any of the Oscar nominated films are some of my favs. I also really love Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. My brothers and I were obsessed when we were little, and I stop and watch at least some of it every time it’s on TV. Save Ferris!
Hmm, time control would be a really great one. I could freeze time and get ahead. I love the feeling of being ahead of things and being super prepared. There are never enough hours in the day to accomplish everything I would like. (How about being super fast like The Flash?)
My dream vacation would be to move to Paris for 1 year and then travel all over Europe in my spare time. (I like to dream big!) I’ve been to Europe a few times, but I would love to fully immerse myself and learn French. I’m infatuated with all things Parisian and French! (Sounds really exciting!)
Not long! I usually get in bed at 10 and wake up around 6:30. If I stay up much later than that, I’m super tired the next day. My routine is very scheduled. I can stay up if I’m out doing something fun with my friends, but if I’m home, I go to bed early. Maybe a night where I barely slept for 2 hours studying for a college exam (like 10 years ago!).
Ahhh, this would have to be anything pop culture, reality TV and a good fiction novel. Sometimes, a mindless TV show is the only thing I can do to shut my brain off at the end of the day!
There are a lot of things that motivate me daily. First and foremost, I would say the people. I’m a sociable person, and I love working in a team environment, so working hand-in-hand with my co-workers is very rewarding. Everyone is super smart and cool. They make me a better worker, and I hope I do the same for them. I also love working for a company that I truly believe in. CoverHound really is disrupting the insurance industry, and that’s super exciting to be changing the game. I also love that my work makes a difference. The company has grown and changed so much from when I started 2.5 years ago, so it’s incredible to see the impact that each person has. We are all very necessary, and that’s a nice feeling. (I can’t agree more)
100% our CEO, Keith Moore brought me to CoverHound. He’s from North Carolina too, and we have worked together at previous companies, both iContact and Academix Direct. He’s a great CEO to work for, I trust him completely, he’s approachable and I know he will continue to lead CoverHound well. Plus, I love having a fellow UNC fan at work. Go Heels!
It has been a pleasure working with you and learning from you Katherine! Thank you for sharing with us!
