CoverHound is thrilled to partner with the Accounting & Financial Women’s Alliance (AFWA) in our shared mission to empower women in accounting and finance. We invite you to join us on this transformative journey. Your story matters— and we can't wait to be a part of it!
The motivational board leader. The detail-oriented lead auditor. The strategic CFO. 20 years ago, these were probably men. But today, they might be just a few of the “Women who Count.”
Women are rapidly climbing the corporate ladder, continuously stepping into leadership roles across all industries. Women now hold more than 32% of senior management roles in mid-market businesses. Even more impressive, the number of companies with female CEOs or managing directors has nearly doubled from 15% in 2019 to 28% today, according to Grant Thornton.
This progress is inspiring, but challenges remain. Gender bias, limited networking opportunities, lack of mentorship, and work-life balance issues still interfere with our path to success.
Together— we’re ready to change that. We are excited to announce that CoverHound will be part of an exciting partnership with the Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance (AFWA) in a mission to help women in all accounting and finance fields achieve long-term success.
AFWA has been supporting women in accounting and finance since 1938. It offers essential resources, educational programs, and a strong network. With 57 chapters nationwide, AFWA is committed to helping women succeed in business.
Becoming an AFWA member can help you access a diverse network of empowered women leaders nationwide. It’s a community that understands your journey and provides you with the tools, knowledge, and support to excel. It’s also a perfect way to connect with fellow women who share your ambitions and drive.
Join us on an inspiring journey as we explore what Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance (AFWA) offers and discover new professional heights together.
The Accounting and Financial Women's Alliance (AFWA) was founded by Ida S. Broo in 1938 in Indianapolis, Indiana, and was originally known as the American Society of Women Accountants.
Ida Broo was the first woman in Indiana to practice as a certified public accountant. Her grit and determination were instrumental in overcoming significant barriers in the field. In fact, to gain the two years of experience necessary for the CPA exam, she worked for a CPA without pay. This was a significant sacrifice and an extraordinary demonstration of her commitment to the profession.
As a pioneer, she understood firsthand the challenges women faced in accounting and finance. This insight drove her to establish AFWA, an organization dedicated to supporting and advancing women in these professions.
For more than 80 years, the AFWA has honored Ida Broo's legacy by providing professional development, networking opportunities, and leadership training for women in finance. One of its notable initiatives is the Women Who Count Awards, which recognize women who empower and lead with passion and integrity.
AFWA supports its members through targeted professional development workshops, leadership training programs, and networking events. These efforts are designed to help women attain and excel in leadership roles.
As one of AFWA’s continuing professional education speakers, CoverHound’s very own COO, Caitlin Saenz, embodies this belief and reinforces the strong partnership between CoverHound and AFWA. This collaboration enriches the resources available to AFWA members, helping them build, protect, and grow their careers within a supportive community.
AFWA's local chapters are just as active and supportive as the national organization. They engage in community service, training, education, professional development, mentoring, and networking. These chapters actively contribute to their communities while supporting members' growth and demonstrating their impact.
AFWA also offers scholarships through its active foundation, supporting individuals entering accounting and finance. Recently, they participated in a fun Gangster Ghost Tour fundraiser to boost scholarships for women pursuing careers in these fields.
Every year, the Women Who Count Conference gathers more than 200 accounting and finance professionals from across the nation. This year's conference will be held from October 23 to 26. Apart from accounting and finance, CoverHound will provide insights into custom insurance solutions centered around women in these fields.
Expect a collaborative and educational atmosphere, offering attendees the opportunity to earn 21 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits through NASBA-sponsored sessions. These sessions cover both technical skills and professional development, providing comprehensive learning experiences.
In addition to the educational sessions, attendees can participate in leadership training and access a variety of career resources, fostering growth and networking opportunities within the industry.
Building a finance career isn’t always easy. You might face gender bias, limited resources, and various professional risks. It can be a lot to handle, but remember, you’re not alone. You can overcome these challenges and thrive with the right training, a supportive community, and proper security.
