Our Team

Basil founded CoverHound in May 2010 to provide people with a new way to shop for insurance. Prior to founding CoverHound, Basil was Vice President of Business Development at InsWeb, where he developed and managed partnerships with dozens of the country's top car insurance carriers.

Originally born in Montreal, Basil moved to California at just two weeks old and has been a Bay Area resident, almost uninterrupted, for more than 30 years.

Basil received an MBA from Columbia Graduate School of Business, a BA in Political Science from Duke University and serves on the Young Professional Advisory Committee of the Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Joel has been coding and following Internet technology for most of his life. Drawing on his experience with a variety of web development tools, he became an early adopter and advocate of Ruby on Rails. Originally from Chicago, he moved to the Bay Area to pursue startup opportunities.

Prior to joining CoverHound as the first employee, Joel helped develop a lead generation platform at Affinity Labs. This system was crucial to the company's eventual acquisition by Monster Worldwide. Before this, he worked with talented teams at ZURB and Rubyred Labs.

Joel received a BS in Computer Science from Purdue University with a minor in Philosophy.

Rory has a deep understanding of both consumer and carrier needs when it comes to car insurance. Prior to joining CoverHound, Rory managed the online marketing channel for one of the top direct, national property and casualty carriers in this space, Unitrin Direct (NYSE – UTR).

Rory was born in upstate New York, but spent much of his youth in the Philadelphia area. A rabid sports fan (especially Mets & Jets), Rory also enjoys spending time running, cooking, eating and traveling. He holds an Economics degree from James Madison University.

As Senior Software Engineer, Keith coordinates large-scale integrations with providers and agents to give users up-to-the-minute rates from multiple carriers. Prior to joining CoverHound, Woody was the CTO at Feedgen, an AngelPad company also headquartered in San Francisco.

Consulting in Ruby on Rails for the past five years and working in web development for more than ten, he brings a broad range of experience and a love of software craftsmanship to the CoverHound development team.

Keith earned a BS in Computer Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Joe joined CoverHound in April 2012. Prior to CoverHound, Joe developed applications to support and utilize a massive data warehouse for a large grocery retailer and distributor.

A recent San Francisco transplant from Minnesota, he loves software and enjoying the city's food.

Joe earned a BS in Software Engineering and Tau Beta Pi membership at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

Laura is originally from the suburbs of Chicago, but the allure of good weather brought her to San Francisco. She has a Masters in Computer Science from California State University, East Bay.

She loves learning about new technologies as well as new food places. Joining CoverHound is her current Next Big Adventure.

Tarek joined Coverhound in February 2013 to help with finance and business analytics. Prior to joining Coverhound, Tarek was VP of Finance at InsWeb where he oversaw internal financial reporting, business analytics, and internal controls.

Kjersten joined the CoverHound team in March 2013. Prior to CoverHound, Kjersten was a software developer at Copyright Clearance Center, where she worked on a large bibliographic catalog and an application to support the distribution of millions of dollars of revenue.

Kjersten has lived all over the Midwest and most recently in Boston. She moved to San Francisco for the amazing weather, restaurants and tech scene.

Kjersten earned a BA in Comparative Religion from Macalester College and an MS in Information Science from Simmons College.

Jeana joined Coverhound to drive customer acquisition and engagement marketing efforts. Prior to joining Coverhound, she helped multiple Silicon Valley start-ups build their brand and take their product to the market. Earlier in her career, she worked for Charles Schwab for over 6 years, helping to grow its retail investor business in the US, EMEA and Asia markets.

Jeana was born and raised in Hong Kong. A world traveler, Jeana also loves skiing, martial arts, cooking and gardening.

Erwan is originally from the French Alps. He joined Coverhound in April 2013 for an internship and is finishing up his Masters in Computer Science from Polytech'Nice-Sophia.

He was an exchange student at California State University, East Bay and decided to come back to San Francisco where he could find great opportunities and an awesome lifestyle.

Erwan is also a Mozillian and tries to promote Free Software and respect for privacy.

Greg’s industry experience includes production and management roles at State Farm, Countrywide Insurance Services/Balboa Insurance Group, 21st Century Insurance and Liberty Company Insurance Brokers.

In 2003 Greg endeavored to partner in National Insurance Solutions Inc (NIS), a startup independent agency where he joined as Chief Operations Office, Principal. Greg managed the day-to-day operational and business support activities of the organization. He also directed the company’s marketing efforts, earning recognition in the Insurance Trade Magazine “Rough Notes.” During Greg’s tenure at NIS from 2003 - 2011 he led the business from nascent startup to stability and profitability. While at NIS Greg noticed a shift in the buying habits and demands of consumers. This trend eventually led Greg to join CoverHound with the goal of meeting the evolving demands of the insurance consumer.

Greg lives in his hometown of Simi Valley, California with his wife and their young daughter. He enjoys outdoor activities including camping, surfing, swimming and mountain biking.

Ralph brought 17 years of experience helping families nationwide protect their most valuable possessions, when he joined CoverHound in January 2012. He has a strong background in tailoring insurance coverage to insure protection of wealth by combining home, auto and umbrella coverage. Ralph is also a resource for Spanish-speakers looking to discuss their insurance options.

Ralph volunteers as a soccer coach for a local soccer league in which his children play. He is also a regular volunteer for HOPE Worldwide.

Ralph enjoys hiking and camping with his wife and three children.

Prior to joining CoverHound in January 2012, Wendi served in sales and service roles at Farmers Insurance, as well as independent insurance agencies in Southern California.

Wendi is in tune with the needs of the consumer and works diligently to provide each client with the personal service they deserve. She understands each client has a unique situation and provides everyone with the best possible policy to fit those specific needs.

Wendi, her husband and two daughters live in Newbury Park, California where they love to camp, surf and go to the beach. Wendi received a BA in Communications from California Lutheran University.

Ashley joined the CoverHound team in January of 2012. Her career started when she accepted a part-time job with an independent agent as a receptionist. After three months of employment she was given the opportunity to obtain her insurance license to become a customer service representative -- and later took on the role as an account executive.

In 2009, she relocated to greater Los Angeles where she worked with an independent agency as a sales agent. Ashley was born and raised in Marysville, a small town in Northern California. She enjoys anything outdoors, watching and playing sports and spending time with her family, friends and her two dogs.

Yesenia has been working with insurance agencies and brokers since 2003. Primarily in fire and casualty, she also has deep experience with customer care and sales.

She is currently pursuing her Professional Insurance Designation to increase her skills in underwriting and quality control.

Lesly began her career in the insurance industry in 2007, working for the 21st Century Insurance Group -- where she earned the Star Award for Excellence in customer satisfaction. After 21st Century, she went on to work as an insurance broker where she expanded her knowledge of auto insurance.

Lesly is originally from the San Fernando Valley and is currently working on obtaining her Bachelor’s in Science for Business Administration.

She enjoys swimming and playing tennis in her spare time.

Jesse brings 15 years of underwriting, consulting and sales experience in all Personal Lines Insurance. With his personal approach he specializes with helping individuals and families with Home, Auto & Umbrella coverage’s catered on their needs and life styles.

On his off time he loves cooking, sports and spending valuable time with his wife and 2 daughters. He especially enjoys the morning walks with his dogs ‘Duke’ & ‘Prince’.

Tom Loverro is a Principal at RRE Ventures. Tom focuses on early stage investments in the financial, enterprise, marketing and advertising technology spaces.

Tom is on the Board of Directors of CoverHound and is also actively involved with RRE's investments in Drobo and On Deck Capital.

Prior to joining RRE, Tom worked at Lightbank in Chicago, where he focused on early stage investments. Tom began his career at Goldman Sachs & Co., where he advised technology, media and telecommunications clients on M&A and corporate finance. Following Goldman, Tom joined RRE as an analyst. Tom's involvement in RRE portfolio company Drobo led to him join the company full-time where he took responsibility for the company's marketing, branding and product launch efforts.

Tom is a Mentor for Blueprint Health in New York and Excelerate Labs in Chicago. He is also the Founder of the Young Executive Board of CampInteractive, a non-profit in Bronx, NY.

Tom holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, where he was an Austin Scholar, and a BA from Stanford University, where he graduated with Distinction.

Jon Soberg has served as a member of the board of directors since June 2011. He is Senior Vice President at Blumberg Capital, which he joined in 2010. Jon also sits on the boards of myfoal, ZipZap and ANY.Do, while observing at Hootsuite, Addepar and others.

Jon earned a BS in Engineering at Harvey Mudd College, an MS in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University and MBA from the The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he also currently serves as a lecturer.

Keith Moore has served as a member of the board of directors since December 2011. He is currently the President and Chief Operating Officer of AcademixDirect, Inc. in Silicon Valley.

Keith has worked in Internet product development and marketing for more than 16 years, with deep knowledge and relationships within the insurance and lead generation worlds. Other positions he's held include General Manager at LendingTree and IAC, Senior Vice President of the 2008 IAC spinoff Tree.com, CMO at iContact -- and Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Internet Operations at Western Mutual Insurance.
